Emotions Are Visitors, Not Permanent Residents I have noticed that when a strong emotion enters the mind, it can temporarily become larger than everything around it. Anger can make one disagreement seem more important than an entire relationship. Fear can turn an uncertain possibility into a certain disaster. Sadness can cover the future so completely that we begin to believe happiness has disappeared from life. At such moments, the feeling does not seem temporary. It feels like reality itself. Yet when we look back, we can see that no emotion has remained exactly as it first appeared. Even feelings that lasted a long time changed in strength. They came closer, moved farther away, disappeared for a while, and returned in another form.
